Responsible Labrador breeders do not produce “silver-,” “charcoal-,” or “champagne-colored” animals. To help them avoid surprises in future breedings this site publishes the d-carriers and dd-affected dogs that we are aware of. If you want to know if a potential mate for your Lab might carry the genes from a Weimaraner cross, search for the mate in our database.
1. Go to the Truelabrador Database.
2. In “Field to search” choose “Name”
3. In “Search string” delete “red” and enter part of the dog’s name. (Exact searches are not recommended.)
4. Tap the “Search” button
To see an example of Labradors with “red” in the name, simply leave everything as is and just tap <search>.
You will get a list of dogs with a link to each one’s pedigree. You can sort by dogs’ names or by dates of birth.

*The dilution gene, which alters the chocolate, black, and yellow colors to produce silver, charcoal, & champagne colors, was fraudulently introduced into the purebred Labrador Retriever gene pool with GREAT CONTROVERSY in the USA in the 1980s. Most breeders of purebred Labrador Retrievers believe a couple of Labradors were cross bred to Weimaraners. The most common coat and color of the Weimaraner is so iconic that it even earned the breed the nickname of the Grey Ghost[1]. The grey color of Weimaraners is actually diluted chocolate! Sound familiar?
